Role Overview & Responsibilities

We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic non-teacher to work across year 7. Alongside the Heads of Year, the successful candidates will play a key role in the progress and achievement of all students. The main role of the Deputy Head of Year is to work collaboratively with and in support of Heads of Year, Senior Leaders and the Student Support Team to provide comprehensive care, support and guidance for students in Year groups in order to ensure they meet the school’s high expectations of attitudes to learning, behaviour and attainment.

Experience of working in a school environment and/or with young people

Job description



Duties for this job will include (but are not limited to):

To support the Heads of Year in taking responsibility for the pastoral welfare of the students in Year 7



To guide and support students to safely and successfully manage face to face and on line relationships with peers



To be proactive in the implementation of the anti-bullying policy in conjunction with the Executive Team;



Be available to counsel and support individuals and groups of students;



to act as a link person between home and school;



To help to organise and administer appropriate rewards and sanctions



Work with the Landau Forte Parliament and encourage student participation



To liaise and seek involvement as appropriate from parents / carers, teachers, Student support Team and external agencies in relation to the welfare of individual students



Contribute as required to parents’ evenings, staff meetings, gatherings, celebration evenings and other activities as associated with particular Year 7 groups



Review student behaviour by analysing monitoring data



Where necessary provide support for teaching staff on behavioural issues



Monitor student attendance, punctuality, positive and negative behaviour in line with the school’s policies and ensure that appropriate action is taken when required.



Promote the aims of the school and support the school ethos



Lead by example, setting high expectations for all



Create a positive climate where students aspire to be the best that they can be and believe in themselves



Work alongside members of the leadership team and the Student Support Team to ensure the delivery and on-going development of the pastoral system.



To monitor students on the school site during lunchtime.



Monitoring of students after school as required, supporting with catch ups and extracurricular activities.



To be familiar and comply with all relevant Health and Safety, Management of Risk, Operational, Personal, Data Protection and Financial Regulations policies and procedures.



To ensure the duties and responsibilities are carried out in a safe manner and safe working practices are adopted, in accordance with the Health and Safety at Work Act, 1974.

To understand and comply with procedures for the emergency evacuation of the school.

To carry out other duties and responsibilities requested



Any other appropriate duties and responsibilities relevant to the post as directed by the Chief Executive Officer, Principal, Vice Principals, or Assistant Principals.
